Catalyst Gauze
High-Performance Knitted Catalyst
CATALYST GAUZE
USAR’s custom designed gauze packs are manufactured in the USA, adhering to the highest quality standards for the ammonia oxidation process. Each pack is tailored to meet the specific production targets of individual plants. Our unique design approach primarily focuses on medium to high-pressure plants, enabling them to extend campaign lengths while maintaining elevated conversion efficiencies throughout the campaign.
USAR begins the fabrication of catalyst gauze by manufacturing a Pt/Rh alloy to precise specifications. The alloy is cast into an ingot, after which production of the wire commences through rolling and wire drawing processes. USAR then knits the gauze wire cloth using four production knitting machines and assembles the gauze into either a corrugated or flat configuration.
The USAR Engineering and Production team brings unmatched expertise in catalyst gauze manufacturing, with nearly 400 years of combined experience. Leveraging this deep knowledge, we design and produce high-performance gauze assemblies that extend campaign life, minimize metal loss, and provide essential technical support to optimize our clients’ production processes. USAR fabricates the gauze using four state-of-the-art knitting machines.
Custom alloy formulations available — including 95/5 Rh, 97/3 Rh, or per client specification.
Precision wire diameters ranging from 60 to 110 microns.
Proprietary USAR Sine Wave corrugation design:
- Increases surface area by 20–33%.
- Prevents “peak” and “valley” burnout common in tight-pleat designs.
Hammer-edge welding ensures proper crush and seal under weighted rings.
“Short Refining” process retains the alloy composition of spent gauze, maximizing metal recovery terms and minimizing turnaround time and cost.
USAR operates a secure fleet of delivery vehicles for insured delivery and pick-up of catalyst gauze.
